Best Organic Soils
Although I am always experimenting with different types of bag soils, I have found a select few brands in which I always return to because of the quality of their soil. Any of these soils should be a great choice for your garden:
- Miracle-Gro Nature’s Care Organic Potting Mix – I found this one online that contains: alfalfa meal, kelp meal, earthworm castings and bone meal to build stronger roots
- Fox Farm Ocean Forest Potting Soil – FoxFarm is a very popular potting soil, especially among raised bed and indoor gardeners. This soil is packed with earthworm castings and bat guano, giving it all the nutrients your plants will need to get started and help you grow healthy, nutritious food. It’s also available in larger 1.5 cubic ft. bags.
Organic Amendments and Fertilizers
- Blood Meal – Great for boosting the Nitrogen (N) in your soil. Slow-release
- Feather Meal – Another great organic source of Nitrogen (N) for your soil. Slow-release.
- Bone Meal – Great for adding a slow-releasing Phosphorus (P) boost to your soil.
- Greensand – One of the very few organic sources of Potassium (K) for your soil.
- AZOmite – If there was only ONE THING that I could recommend, it would be AZOmite. AZOmite is derived from volcanic ashes and is loaded with trace elements that your soil and beneficial microbes will love. Remember, happy soil makes for happy plants!
- Earthworm Castings Organic Fertilizer – For larger gardens, be sure to grab the larger 30-pound bags.
- Dr. Earth’s Homegrown Organic Tomatoes, Vegetable and Herb Fertilizer –
- Jobe’s Organics Fertilizer Spikes for Vegetables – Time released fertilizer
